Come Prepared
- Have your pilot licence available
- Make sure your logbook is up to date and available
- Have your logbook endorsement page with you
- Read through the SACAA test form or company OPC form for guidance and make sure you are familiar with the testing content and criteria
- These document will be checked as per the SACAA Regulations
Grading your Flight Test
As per the SACAA grading scale: A score of 2 may be corrected and re-assessed once during the same flight. During a competency check, the examiner may provide limited instruction on that specific item before re-assessing it. If you receive a score of 1 in up to four aspects, remedial training is required before those items can be re-assessed. If you receive a score of 1 in five aspects, the test or check must be stopped. After remedial training, the full test or check must be repeated. If airmanship is assessed as Not Competent, the full test or check must be repeated.
Examiner Privileges
As a Grade 1 (H) / DFE 1 (H), I am authorised to conduct tests for: PPL, CPL, ATPL, Instrument Rating, Instructors Rating, Game/Cull Rating, Winch Rating, Sling Rating, Night Rating, Agricultural Rating, OPCs and MCC, or as per endorsed within my licence.
Regulatory Conditions
- When a skills test or revalidation check is to be conducted in a helicopter with a MCM of 3,175kg or less, and the DFE holds the category rating (helicopter or fixed-wing) but is not rated on the aircraft, the pilot to be tested must have a valid licence and be appropriately rated to act as PIC of the aircraft.
- For the purposes of conducting a revalidation check for an instrument rating in a multi-pilot aircraft, where the DFE does not hold the type rating, the flight crew must be appropriately rated and the DFE must hold the appropriate category (helicopter or fixed-wing) rating and may not occupy a pilot seat.
- A DFE occupying a pilot seat as an examiner in a helicopter with a MCM in excess of 3,175kg shall hold a valid type rating for the aircraft in which the test is being carried out.
